Neighbourhood

To Kwa Wan is one of the last remaining urban areas in Hong Kong that has large scale low rise walk up buildings (known as “Tong Lau” in Chinese) constructed and common throughout the ’60s. The area is amongst a few remaining neighbourhoods in HK that continue to hold its traditional character, with local bakeries, independent cafes, family run restaurants and shops.

Now is the time to experience this important heritage before it is gone. Walk the local streets and take in the sights, sounds and smells of real Hong Kong. Spot the washing being hung from the windows, try the fresh produce and markets that remain on the street corners, and try the vast range of flavours and dishes available in one of the hottest gastronomic areas of the city.

The neighbourhood is conveniently connected by multiple bus and minibus routes, making it easy to get to all parts of Hong Kong, including the spectacular countryside that only those in the know, know!

Stay at The Mahjong and experience the character and vibrancy of real Hong Kong!
